After Action Report for "GAZeL Networking Presents: Mobile Learning" on May 7, 2009
MOBILE LEARNING PRESENTATION SUMMARY
Click Here for Past Event Information
On May 7th 2009, at SKYSONG, GAZeL presented “Mobile Learning”. The presenters were Ann Boland and Brad Boute’. This is a fascinating topic. Our children and grandchildren can’t remember a time when a cell phone was not in everyone’s pocket. Those of us who are over 35 can well remember when we had to stop at a house or store to make a phone call. As we sat in the Global conference room at SKYSONG we saw how messages, information, lessons and just plain chit chat can come to us on a tiny phone that we carry around where ever we go.
This presentation was really dynamic. The presenters were enthusiastic and specific. We not only had thirty two live participants in the room but thanks to TraCorp we were able to have participants on line. Most of the on line people were from Tucson. They could type questions that we could see on the computer and we could answer them. Now this is not new to many of you, but the pace of technology is awesome.
Our sponsor, Aries Technology, provided lunch from the Wildflower Bread Company. We wish to thank Paul Skiera and David Alexander for helping to provide the room and the lunch and the President of Aries Technology for saying yes to paying the bill.
Be on the lookout for our next event on August 20, 2009. This will be presented by Flypaper. We will be sending more information during June, July and August.

Corporate Learning Trends and Innovation:
April 21-22. Mark your calendar now
A week from today, Learntrends will host a series of conversations about how to improve learning in organizations. It’s a big topic, so we plan to keep the conversation going for 24 hours.
Come and go as you wish. There’s no sign-up required. Drop by at breakfast time, during a mid-morning break, at lunch, after dinner, or in the wee hours of the morning. Everyone is busy these days; join us when it’s convenient for you.
As is our tradition, Learntrends is online and free. We’ll be using the Elluminate platform for listening in and taking part in discussions. We’ll also be using Twitter as our back channel.
The event kicks off with conversations with George Siemens, Luis Suarez, Brent Schlenker, Ellen Wagner, Charles Jennings, Harold Jarche, Clark Quinn, Marcia Conner, and Nancy White, along with many others you probably know by reputation. They’ll be talking about networked intelligence, case studies of what works, new roles for learning pros, making informal learning concrete, and real-time learning with Twitter.
Then the event turns more informal. Tell us what you want to talk about and we’ll put it into the agenda. We’ve set aside ten hours for short talks, Q&A, and joint problem-solving. Think of it as wandering into our living room to chat about whatever concerns you.
We’re all volunteers here. We need your help in three areas:
1. We need people to moderate the conversations on Elluminate from 0:00 to 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time.
2. Volunteer to lead a 20-minute discussion on a topic you or others suggest.
3. Spread the word. The more, the merrier. Tell your local contacts to join our global event.
Click the third tab here on the Learntrends site, April 2009 Event, for complete information.
We look forward to seeing you next week.

GAZeL is proud to say that our events this past year have been very interesting. The presentation at SKYSONG on March 12, 2009 was thought provoking and the building with the view of the mountains is beautiful. Paul Skiera Ph.D. spoke on how SKYSONG was developed and how ASU came to be so involved in the world of entrepreneurship. He had a powerpoint presentation to show the stages of the buildings and the programs that are offered. Dr. Skiera is a professor at ASU and also is the Business Development Manager of Sebit, a company producing curriculum software. He is currently Director of Technology-Based Learning and Research, an educational design, content and professional development center at ASU.
Our other speaker was David Alexander Ph.D., Director of the Virtual Training Center. Dr. Alexander began his career as a kindergarten teacher and rose to the position of principal. He was Curriculum Director, and assistant Superintendent in the Roosevelt Schools. From there he went through a vast array of experiences in education and joined Cisco System’s Educational Marketing Group in 1998.
